a
Accumulator (Combination)
An accumulator is where more than one bet is combined, and success is dependent on all selections winning. This is also called a “bet builder” in Europe or a "parlay" in the US.
Ace
To score an ace, a player must deal the killing blow to all five opponents in the opposing team in rapid succession, ending a round in FPS-titles Counter-Strike or VALORANT if a bomb hasn't been planted. In League of Legends, an ace means that all members of the opposing team have been killed.
Antepost | Futures | Outright
An antepost is a type of bet placed to predict a future outcome. For example, it could be placed to predict which team will win a division or a championship.
Asian Handicap
Asian handicap markets are market types that level the playing field by giving one team a virtual advantage or disadvantage, expressed in goals or points. Unlike regular handicap markets, they eliminate the possibility of a draw.
In regular handicap markets, you may see a three-way outcome (win, lose, draw). In contrast, Asian handicaps only offer two outcomes by using half-point increments or covering the draw in specific ways, which can result in a "push" where the stake is returned.
For example, in a League of Legends match between Bilibili Gaming and T1, if Bilibili Gaming is considered slightly weaker, the bookmaker might give Bilibili Gaming a +1.5 handicap, meaning they start with a virtual 1.5-point advantage.
b
Bankers | Includes
Bankers are event bettors who are certain that they are going to win.
Bet Builder
A bet builder is when a bettor combines multiple bets, which can have underlying dependent or independent outcomes. The bettor gets runtime-calculated odds for it, and success depends on all selections winning. This form of accumulator is also called "parlay" in the US.
Bet Flow
A bet flow means a player can place a bet on a particular outcome when a market is open.
For given esports events, there are markets for different outcomes. When sportsbooks open their markets, bettors can place bets on the outcomes. Bet flow means that the markets are accepting bets. Sportsbooks can close markets at any given time.
Bet Offer
A bet offer is a sportsbook's representation of the probability for different outcomes to occur during an event. It can include several outcomes for the same event. For a League of Legends match, it could be “Match Winner”, with the probability of each team winning as a selection, along with other types such as “Team to Get First Blood”, “Player to Get Kills Over/Under” and so on.
“Market” is a synonym for Bet Offer.
Bet Slip
The bet slip is where a bettor can select and collect their bets to be confirmed and submitted.
Betting Exchange
A betting exchange is a site that allows bettors to place bets directly against each other and set the odds themselves. This is also called “peer-to-peer betting.
Instead of providing markets for different outcomes for events like traditional bookmakers, betting exchanges allow bettors to bet against each other directly.
There are two kinds of players involved in any bet made on an exchange: the player who “backs” the bet and the player who “lays” the bet. The player who is backing the bet selects an outcome for an event and decides the stake. The second type of player lays a bet, e.g., places a bet against an outcome the backer decides the stake on.
Bettor | Player | End-user
A bettor is the end-user of a bookmaker's service and places bets. Also called a "player" or “end-user”.
Bet Types
Bet types are the different sorts of events players can bet on. The most common ones include match winner, handicap and over/under.
Bonus
A bonus is a conditional incentive bookmakers give to entice new or existing account holders to engage in betting activity.
Book
A book is a ledger of odds and bets taken on markets for an event. In short, a company that offers and accepts bets. It is short for “sportsbook”, “bookie”, or “bookmaker”.
Bookmaker
A company licensed to offer and accept bets on events, typically in sports or esports, but can range over various activities, including politics and talent shows. Bookmaker is another word for “sportsbook”, “operator” or “bookie”.
c
Cancelled markets
Sportsbooks cancel markets they don't want players to place bets on. As such, a cancelled market is in a closed market state that doesn't accept bets. Cancelled markets are most common in live betting and can occur for many reasons, for example, if there's an error in the odds and a market shows the wrong price or if the outcome of a bet is already decided.
Cash-out
Cash-out is a bet state where a player has the option to settle a bet they've placed before an event has concluded and the outcome of the bet is known. Depending on the probability of certain outcomes, the player can secure a win or limit their losses by “cashing out” before the underlying event occurs.
This is also referred to as “Cash in” and is a profitable feature for sportsbooks for two reasons: It releases funds for players to place new bets and allows sportsbooks to add an additional margin.
Closing Price
The odds of a selection when the event starts or is about to occur and the market closes. This is considered the most efficient and accurate representation of the selection's probability because it is set when the most information about the event and previous bets is known. Opposite of “Opening Price”. It is also called the “Closing Line” in American sports betting.
Combination (Accumulator)
A combination is a type of pre-packaged accumulator where one or more outcomes are bundled in the same bet. To win, a player has to predict the correct outcome of all chosen outcomes. The odds for the individual bets are multiplied to create a higher possible payout.
The difference between a combination bet and a bet builder is that the outcomes are pre-combined in a combination bet, while a bet builder allows players to create their own combinations.
Console Esports
Though smaller than PC or mobile esports, console esports are played on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox. Popular console games include FIFA, NBA2K, and Call of Duty, with the largest fanbases in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Counter-Strike
The first beta was released in 1999 as a mod for the game Half-Life, and Counter-Strike quickly evolved into a standalone game that has captivated esports fans ever since. This FPS (first-person shooter) is known for being easy to pick up but hard to master, a key factor in its long-standing success. It has a robust ecosystem of tournament organisers, players, and teams, with its fan base strongest in Europe and CIS countries.
Coupon
A coupon is a collection of one or more betting combinations. Combinations may vary in size. A coupon can also be referred to as a “ticket".
d
Dividend
In betting, a dividend is considered a Return/Payout from a winning bet.
Dota 2
As one of the original esports titles in the MOBA genre, Dota 2 by Valve Corporation pits two teams of five players against each other as they take on the roles of "heroes" in a mission to destroy the opponent's base. Along the way, players must complete high-stakes objectives on the battlefield.
e
Esports
Esports is an abbreviation of “electronic sports” and commonly refers to professional competitions in video games. In written English, esports should be written “esports”, not “e-sports” or “eSports”.
Like sports, esports is a collective term that includes several titles, such as League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike, and VALORANT.
Even Money
A bet in which the profit made by a player is equal to the loss they would incur when losing a bet. This is represented by odds of 2.00, fractional odds of 1/1 or American odds of +100.
Event
A match, game or event, in esports, sports or non-sports which players can place bets on.
f
Favourite to win
The team or player that bettors have placed most money on and a sportsbook considers the most likely to win.

Grand Slam is a term used to describe when a team wins the four major tennis and golf tournaments in a given time.
Tennis has Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open.
Golf has the Masters, British Open, US Open and the PGA Championships.
It is also a baseball term for a home run with the bases loaded. See “Intel Grand Slam” for Counter-Strike.
h
Handicap
A handicap market decreases the differences in pricing between the odds in a market, making uneven matchups more appealing for users to place bets on.
An Asian Handicap is a bet type in which one of the teams, typically the underdog, is handicapped according to its form. This means that the stronger team must win by more goals for a player betting on them to win. The benefit of Asian Handicaps is that they make betting on either side of an uneven match-up appealing to bettors. In soccer betting, handicap markets are measured in terms of quarter, half, and full goals.
The American term for the Handicap market type is “spread betting"
Hedging
A player hedges their bet or participates in “hedging” when betting against their original bet to reduce or eliminate the amount they could lose.

The events that count towards the “Intel Grand Slam” are those hosted by ESL, including ESL Pro League, IEM Katowice, and IEM Cologne. Find the Intel Grand Slam Rules here.
l
Lay
When a person or sportsbook “Lays,” they bet against an outcome. If a player places a bet on NAVI winning a match, the sportsbook accepting the bet lays NAVI, which essentially means it is willing to bet against the player.
League of Legends
This popular MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game launched in 2009, quickly captivating fans worldwide with its strategic gameplay and memorable champions. Though more complex than FPS games like Counter-Strike, League of Legends has a passionate fandom, particularly in China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Live Betting
Live betting occurs when a player places a bet on an event in progress, such as a League of Legends match that has started.
There is no conceptual difference between Live and Pre-match. The odds for a particular outcome fluctuate depending on new information, bets placed, and other events occurring, regardless of whether a match has started or not. Nonetheless, certain market types, such as instant bets or round-by-round betting, are typically best served in a live format.
Live betting is also called “in-play” or “in-game” betting.
Live Esports Data
Live data generally refers to data transmitted or received when an event is in progress.
Odds based on probabilities calculated with faster data sources tend to have faster refresh rates, higher uptime, and better accuracy.
Delays and latency of different data sources can impact the data speeds and how quickly a sportsbook can react to in-game events that occur for a match or event in progress.
Examples of live data include live events, status updates, scores and more. See “Server Data” or “Stream-live Data” for other data types.

Money Back
Money-back is a bet state in which a bet settles with the player receiving a refund for their bets.
This can happen for several reasons, such as if the event is postponed indefinitely or a sportsbook voids a bet.
o
Odds
The probability of a given event to occur. In sports betting, different odds formats have developed in certain regions to describe how much a player can gain or lose by placing a bet on a certain outcome. In Europe, decimal odds are used.
Decimal odds can look like this for a Match Winner market for a match between Counter-Strike 2 teams NAVI and Team Vitality:
NAVI to win: 2.10 - Team Vitality to win: 1.65
The payout is already included in the calculation, meaning the odds display how much a player can expect to take home for every €1 bet if they bet on a favourable outcome. In this case, for €10 placed on NAVI, a player would receive a total winnings of €21 from the sportsbook, including the €10 initial stake.
Odds Compiler
An Odds Compiler is a person or entity setting the odds or betting line, typically referred to as an Esports trader.
Odds Against
Odds against refers to a bet in which the stake is less than the amount the player hopes to win. It often occurs when betting in favour of an underdog.
Odds Feed
An odds feed is a data service that provides real-time betting odds and information to sportsbooks, allowing them to offer accurate and dynamic betting options for a variety of sports and esports events. These feeds typically include odds for different types of bets—such as match winners, point spreads, and over/under—and adjust continuously based on live game data and market fluctuations. Odds feeds help sportsbooks enhance their betting experience by ensuring timely and reliable data, which is crucial for both pre-match and live betting.
Odds Format
Different international conventions have developed in various parts of the world to represent the same odds.
Where a coin-toss has a 50% probability for heads, there are three common ways to represent the probability for the event to occur or odds:
Europe (Decimal) - 2.0
United Kingdom (Fractions) - Evens (or 1/1, or even money)
The United States (American) - +100; a (+) indicates the amount that would be won for every 100 bets placed. (-) indicates how much must be bet to win 100.
Odds On
Odds On refers to a bet where the stake is more than the amount the player hopes to win. It often occurs when betting in favour of a favourite.
Offering
An offering refers to a set of markets on which players can place bets.
Opening Price
The Opening Price is the odds of a selection when a market opens and starts to accept bets. This is considered the least efficient and accurate representation of the selection's probability, as it is made with the least available information. As an event progresses and more bets are placed, a probability becomes more efficient and accurate as more information is available. The “Opening Price” is the opposite of the “Closing Price”.
Operator
A company licensed to offer and accept bets on events, typically in sports or esports, but can range over various activities, including politics and talent shows. An Operator is another word for “sportsbook”, “bookmaker”, or “bookie”.
Outcome
An outcome is one of several possible results of an event on which a player can place a bet. A player can bet on one or more outcomes of an event. If an outcome matches a bet placed the bet the player wins. If not, the sportsbook wins.
Over/Under
Over/under bets, also called total bets, is a bet type that represents the probability that an outcome will be over or under a given value set by a sportsbook. For esports, this bet type is often used for kills by a player or a team, for example, “Sayaplayer to Get Over/Under 20.5 Kills” in a given match.
p

Pentakill
A pentakill occurs when a player kills or deals the last blow to all five opposing team members in a short time frame. This is a rare occurrence. The term is commonly used in MOBA titles such as League of Legends or Dota 2.
The corresponding term in FPS games such as VALORANT or Counter-Strike is an “Ace”.
Player
A player is the end-user of a bookmaker's service and is the one placing bets. Also called a "Bettor". In esports or gaming, a player can instead refer to a participant in a game, whether that be in a professional match or a casual skirmish.
Player Propositions [Player Props]
A bet type based on a player-related event is called a player proposition, or a player prop. It can feature bet offers on players receiving Over/Under X Kills, Total Goals, or Over/Under X Vision Score.
Pre-match Betting (PM)

Round-by-Round Betting
In round-based esports titles, such as Counter-Strike or VALORANT, sportsbooks can offer markets based on each round, so-called “Round-by-Round Betting.” This is a form of Instant Bet, as it is only available for a short period of time.
Rule 4 (Tattersalls)
If an event participant is scratched, the odds on the remaining participants are reduced in accordance with the so-called Tattersall's Rule 4. This rule is implemented for certain bet offers. How much the odds are reduced depends on the odds given to the scratched participant as well as the initial odds of the selected participant.
Result
A result is a synonym for outcome and describes one of several possible outcomes of an event on which a player can place a bet.
s
Same-game Bet builder
A Same-Game Bet builder refers to an accumulator in which a player can combine markets where the probability of the underlying events happening is correlated.
When outcomes aren't correlated, the probability for two markets to occur is solely one probability times the other. If, instead, the outcomes of two or more markets are correlated, e.g., Team Vitality wins the match, and ZywOo gets over 25 kills, it means that the match behind the calculation becomes more complicated, making it rarer in esports.
Selection
A selection refers to the different bets available on a bet slip.
Self-Service Terminal (SST)
A physical retail machine where players can find and place their bets without interacting with a clerk.
Settling | Bet Settlement | Grading
A closed bet stage is when a sportsbook determines the outcome of the underlying event, such as a Match Winner, and pays out winnings or balances credit bets to bring the sportsbook and customer back to even.
Simple In-Event Combination
In-event combinations allow sportsbooks to calculate two outcomes in the same event without calculating new probabilities.
Stake
The stake is the amount of money a player places on a bet.
Stream-live esports data
Data derived from Computer Vision and manual editing have speeds roughly on par with public streams such as the ones seen on broadcasting platforms Twitch or YouTube. While it isn't recommended for live odds, it can be a powerful yet cost-efficient way of attaining engaging live scores.
Server data for esports
All esports matches are played on servers that tournament organisers host. When match data is derived directly from the tournament servers, it is called “server data.” It is typically the fastest data source, as the only delay comes from the delays imposed by tournament organisers for integrity purposes or latency, which is the physical distance between a server, the rights holder, and the data receiver. Its speed allows for faster and more reliable refresh rates and is excellent for live odds products.
Sports Games
Sports games are video games that simulate traditional sports like football, basketball, and racing. Popular esports titles in this genre include FIFA, NBA2K, and Madden NFL, where players can compete individually or as part of a team. Sports games have a strong fan base, particularly in the United States and Europe, and are widely played on consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox. They bring the excitement of real-world sports to the gaming arena, allowing players to engage in realistic simulations and compete in organised tournaments.
